Zooming again

We still have had no word from the new team at Blackwell’s, so for now we will stay online.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday April 6th.

This will be a 2-hour session with four members getting 30 minutes to read and get feedback. Please email me at info@theoxfordeditors.co.uk if you wish to read this time. We will have another session at the end of the month for those who miss out this time.

Back in action

Dear Writers at Blackwell’s,

It feels like a lifetime since we last met. I suggested we start meeting again on Zoom, and although I only have a personal version let’s try and see if a few of us can meet:

Just use the link below.

Cherry Mosteshar is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

🎄🎅🏽🎄🤶🏼🎄

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Please keep safe, and keep writing.

We have great holiday discounts at The Oxford Editors for members of group, so do get in touch.

We are hoping to have a Zoom meeting in January.

Please email me with your availability. I suggest the 2nd Thursday in January.

This year we will have two zoom meetings a month, and members will get 30-minute slots to read and get feedback. That means four pieces only at every meeting instead of everyone reading. You can learn as much from the mistakes and triumphs of others as you can from feedback on your work, so this should be positive for all.

Email me with dates or if you want editorial help to info@theoxfordeditors.co.uk.

All the best,

Cherry

Getting back to normal?

It has been so long since we met, and I have missed you all. Things are
slowly opening up, but with the doubt about variants I feel we need to be more
cautious about meeting in person.

However, if all goes well I hope that we can resume some sort of meeting in
July. If Blackwell’s allow physical meetings then we will use our old slots, if
not it will be the pub again – or Zoom if we are in lockdown again.

I hope everyone has lots of lovely Lockdown writing we can enjoy.

Publishing Success

Hi Everyone in the Writers at Blackwells and the Oxford Editors. At last my collection of short stories has been published and are ‘out there’ in the real world!

Working with the Group has been really helpful to me over the many years I have been attending meetings… thank you all for your comments and advice over those many years!

The book, The West Facade, is stocked by Blackwells  but is also available directly from my website;  http://www.lizhenderson.co.uk  where you can pay by paypal or credit card etc… easy!

My personal email is ek.henderson@btinternet.com if you just want a chat or have any questions.

Hope you are all finding the ‘lock-down’ a useful period to find the time to write although those of you with children will probably have found it was all more difficult… what a strange time we are living in… not exactly ideal for inspiration !!Looking forward to hearing from you.

Liz Henderson

Feedback online

header-imageDear All,

It has been some time since we met and even longer since we had a feedback session. Would members like to have an online session? If so, does anyone have the full version of Zoom? Perhaps we can have a virtual meeting in the next couple of weeks. Send me an email at info@theoxfordeditors.co.uk and we can set something up.

My best,

Cherry

Feedback in the time of isolation

Dear wonderful writers,

First of all, I hope you are all well and safe and have plenty of help if you need it. In these strange times, it is so important to be careful and to stay at home – and write, write, write.

Remember that we have a Facebook Feedback page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/739546102849361/) on which you can post your work for fellow group members to give comments. I am a bit overworked at the moment, but if you want to send me some of your writing, not more than 1,000 words, I will look at it and give feedback when I can. Just email to info@theoxfordeditors.co.uk.

The very best to you all, please keep very, very safe.

Cherry

March meeting: Jonathan Coe with Blackwell’s events

We have been invited to join the Blackwell’s event on the 18th:

Jonathan Coe will be with us to discuss his Costa Novel Award winning book:

Middle England

About this Event

Blackwell’s is delighted to be joined by author, Jonathan Coe to discuss the book which the Costa judges called ‘the perfect novel for now,’ Middle England.

‘The book everyone is talking about’ – The Times

‘A comedy for our times’ – Guardian

Synopsis:

The country is changing and, up and down the land, cracks are appearing – within families and between generations. In the Midlands, Benjamin Trotter tries to help his aged father navigate a Britain that seems to have forgotten he exists, while in London his friend Doug doesn’t understand why his teenage daughter is eternally enraged. Meanwhile, newlyweds Sophie and Ian can find nothing to agree on except the fact that their marriage is on the rocks . . .

Jonathan Coe FRSL is critically acclaimed English novelist and writer. His work has an underlying preoccupation with political issues, although this serious engagement is often expressed comically in the form of satire. Middle England, the third in his loose “Rotter’s Club” trilogy, won Best Novel at this year’s Costa Book Awards, as well as further prizes across Europe. He is represented by Caroline Wood at Felicity Bryan Associates, and is currently hard at work on his next novel.

There will me complementary tickets to the Writers at Blackwell’s members for this event? You just need to Blackwell’s  us know you will be going so they can  put their your on the list. Please email alex.pearson@blackwell.co.uk if you want to attend.

It should be a really interesting talk.

We will have a freedback Session on Wednesday 25th March. Venue to be announced.
